The Hotel and Checking In
The Ritz-Carlton Laguna Niguel located in Dana Point is truly a standout in Southern California set atop a 150-foot bluff with panoramic views. It’s no wonder this resort is consistently ranked as one of the top luxury resorts. I seriously could not get over the views and stunning landscaping that could be found throughout the entire resort. Truly stunning!
We arrived early, but were unable to check in at that time although we did request early check in. Honestly, this was expected as Ritz-Carlton doesn’t guarantee early check in requests. It was quick and painless to valet the car and have them store the baggage. The valet gave me the info to text them for the car when I wanted it later in the day and we were off.

The Property
We wandered through some of the hallways to check out the hotel layout then headed straight for the Dana pool where we indulged in some cocktails and poolside snacks while we waited. The pool has a relaxed vibe and great service. The only thing that the pool is missing is the views that are seen from all other areas of the resort as it is located in a courtyard. As far as hotel pools go this one is definitely underwhelming but given the beach access and other vantage points I was ok with that.
Upon check-in, the front desk was gracious enough to include a $100 resort credit for not being able to honor the early check in. The fireside garden view guest room was lovely! Our room actually had views of both the ocean and the gardens.
We didn’t try the hotel restaurants as we opted to adventure over to Laguna Beach but the menus looked great for all of the dining locations. I will be making it a point to try at least one of them next time I am there.
Amenities
In the morning I wandered over to the Spa where the fitness center is located and was blown away by what greeted me. The gym has floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Pacific Ocean with views that could have kept me going on the elliptical all day. I came back to the room service that had been ordered: greek yogurt, tropical fruit and a side of sausage. Eating my breakfast next to the fire pit while listening to the waves crash was the best way to start the day.

If I had done better planning I would have enjoyed some of the other amenities offered including the spa, yoga on the lawn and maybe even an eco-adventure. For golf lovers, there is access to Monarch Beach Golf Links [a Scottish-style ocean-view course] with preferred tee times and shuttle service.
The Final Hotel Review
I will definitely be back and give this a 9.5/10. When it comes to hotels the Ritz-Carlton chain is a perfect example of you get what you pay for. The staff provided impeccable service, the grounds were spectacular and the attention to detail was second to none from the toiletries to the ever changing floral displays in the lobby.
